A Cowboy/Cowgirl Birthday!

My kids turned 5 and 1 at the end of July. Reed's is on July 31st and Jade's is on July 27th. Having birthdays only 4 days apart means one big party! Thankfully they are still young, and I can find a theme to make both of them happy. This year it was cowboys and cowgirls!

I had one table decorated for Reed and one decorated for Jade. This is Jade's. We had 1st Birthday cowgirl plates, pink napkins, and pink silverware standing in a plastic boot.
This was her cake. It's a horse made out of cupcakes. The hair is twizzlers. It was made by my awesome Aunt Candie!
Also on her table was corn on the cob, corn dog muffins, and cowboy beans (baked). I kept them warm in crockpots, which was also handy for keep away flies!

And here's Reed's table. Doesn't show very well in the picture, but he had cowboy plates, red napkins, and red silverware standing in a clear boot.  I found all the plates (and invitations!) on sale on Oriental Trading. It was like 75 cents for a pack of plates and the same for invitations!
Here's Reed's cake. Also made with cupcakes and twizzlers.
Then we had "cow patties" (boiled cookies), "gold nuggets" (puff corn), and watermelon.
We also had "Cactus Juice" (Hawaiian Punch) to drink.
Of course we had to dig into the smash cake (you should've seen the after picture!)
and blow out candles!
Reed requested a piñata, which was a horse filled with toy cowboys, stickers, sheriff badges, etc.
Jade even had her own pink pony piñata.

We opened presents, presents,
and more presents!
We sent guests home with a boot cup filled with a pink or red bandana and a Cow Tale candy and an activity book and pencil. Also had Jade's 1st year scrapbooks out and a scrapbook page to sign! I would say the party was a success!

My John Deere Kids

A few days ago I noticed I had dressed both of my kids in John Deere. Reed in green John Deere, and Jade in pink John Deere. Conveniently, there was a big ol tractor just waiting in my backyard to take pictures on...

A Quick Pre-Harvest Update

I thought I would give a quick update on things around here, well, on the kids at least, before we got up to our eyeballs in harvest!

College football has begun! Roll Tide!
 Reed even started Pre-K!
He did get a timeout on the first day, but things have greatly improved! I think he likes it!
Here's the big shocker...Reed went to his first dentist appointment! I know, I know, he should've already been, but if you knew what this kid did at just a haircut appointment, you would keep confining chairs and sharp pointy objects way away from him.
But, he loved it! Completely blew our minds! No cavities either! I'm hoping this means the wailing, flailing, gagging, and everything in between will stop at the beauty shop!
And Jade is giving us lots of smiles (and occasional crying too, lol). She's basically outgrown newborn everything, is in size 1 diapers, is drinking 4 oz of milk every 3 hours, and sometimes even lets me sleep 5 hours in a row!

Reed's 4th Birthday Party!

This past weekend was Reed's dinosaur party! It has been all he's talked about for weeks! I was so excited to put such a fun party together for him, even when I was 37 weeks pregnant, and it was 100 degrees outside!

Sugar cookies with cocoa powder footprints!
Bugles!
Dino chicken nuggets are for meat eaters only!
Pb & J dino sandwiches are for plant eaters only!
Excavate the fossils out of the jello!
Don't be scared! That's just a watermelon t Rex! This melon actually grew in the rocks under Reed's swingset. He checked on it everyday and occasionally kissed it. It weighed 33lbs!
This is officially the coolest dino/volcano cake ever, made by my Aunt Candie.
It even smoked!
Reed loved everything!

These were the party favors I made...dino eggs!
Mix 1 cup coffee grounds, 1 cup flour, 1/4th cup sand, and 1/2 cup salt. Add water till you get to a good molding consistency (about 3/4th cup). Roll mixture around a plastic dinosaur. Bake 20-30 minutes at 175 degrees.
Now you can smash them open with a hammer and pull out the dino!

Christmas 2014

I'm so close to being all caught up blogging! I couldn't leave out pictures from December 2014 though...

Reed's church Christmas play. Notice who played the part of the trouble making camel sitting in the floor.

Our yearly family Santa photo. Reed still won't take one alone!

We also took a trip to Pigeon Forge in the camper right before Christmas...

We also had an ugly sweater party. Check out our awesome outfits! I made my skirt and Lance's shirt!

Reed left some milk and cookies for Santa...

got lots of presents from Santa...

and had lots of fun with family!

Santa also brought Reed a new room!

I removed some drawers from an old dresser, chest of drawers, and night stand and painted them with chalk paint.

He got a "new" bunk bed...

and new Farm/Ranch themed decorations. He loved it!
