Wiggley Le Pew

Don't let those cute puppy dog eyes fool you. This is one stinky boy. Yep, he got skunked. Again. For like the 4,000th time. You'd think he'd learn. Nope. If the skunk doesn't spray him, he'll go find a nice, smelly one to go roll in. Those are the best.  So, if you have this problem as often as we do, here's a good recipe:

De-Skunkifier

1 cup vinegar
1 cup peroxide
1 cup dish soap

or

1 qt peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon dish soap

Mix up and bathe dog immediately. If it is too cold outside or if dog isn't a big fan of baths, you can also mix up in a spray bottle and spray/wipe down dog.

Here's to less smelly dogs!

Get Well Soon, Wiggley!

Yesterday, Wiggley had a minor mishap.
Or make that, major mishap.  That would be an x-ray of his right "elbow". It's a bit dislocated. He also has a broken left leg, but that x-ray didn't look quite as interesting as this one.

You see, Wiggley and his best buddy/neighbor, Peewee (pictured below), love to chase squirrels. Well, this particular squirrel decided to dart across the road in front of a truck doing about 90, who never even checked up. Wiggley survived. Peewee did not.

 ***R.I.P. Peewee***

It's a bit difficult for him to sit himself up to eat right now.

And well, lets just say he won't be hiking his leg anytime soon either.
He has to go back to the vet in 10 days, and he's currently on painkillers.

Remember, just  because you may be on an empty country road, doesn't mean you should speed. There could be anything around the next corner, dogs, kids, livestock, broken down tractors...
And by the way, if you happen to hit someone's dog, make that, 2 dogs, at least stop. Don't be a jackass and act like you didn't notice.

Yoga with Wiggley

It is important to begin yoga with a bit of meditation.
 Sitting properly also helps.
Find yourself a spot with enough room to stretch out.
Stretching the back is a good way to begin.
Repeat this step as often as necessary.
Yoga mats are not required, but do come in handy.
If you are bored with normal stretching, find yourself a partner.
 Or a new location.
Stairs are a useful tool.
Lying on your back is a good way to relieve tension.
Stretch your legs into the air.
 Now your arms.
 Rolling is also great exercise.
This move is called the "Wig in a Blanket".
Feel free to wipe your sweat with the blanket when finished.
This move is not for amateurs.
Thank you for attending the Wiggley School for Yoga.

Hi! I'm Wiggley.

Lance and Stephanie found me wandering around the neighborhood a few weeks ago.

They gave me this chew toy, so I decided to stay.

 I really love their peanuts.

I got my name because I wiggle a lot, but sometimes other dogs laugh at it.

I chase a car every now and then, but I'm slowly learning its much more fun to just nap in the garage.

Well, thats it for now. I'm sure you'll be hearing from me lots in the future. Especially if I smear more cow poop on the garage walls. Paws out.

Sushi Anyone?

I would like to tell y'all that I caught this 3 ft. carp in our pond today, and that everybody was invited over for a fish fry, but I can't...

It seems as though, last night, all of our fish decided that they had enough of the hot pond water and decided to commit suicide.

Yes, suicide. Our banks were covered with fish.

Hundreds of carp, catfish, bass, and I'm not even sure what else.

Of course they all had to be cleaned up and carried off.  That would've been some kind of stink. Lance and farm employee, Anthony, had to put on their big boots to trudge out in it. See how low the water has gotten due to the weeks and weeks of 100+ heat indexes and lack of rain?

You can see the dead fish between my father in law (right) and Lance's Uncle Jim (left).

They rigged up a pool pump that would spray some water into the pond. Hopefully that will provide more oxygen to the remaining fish.

Hard to see in this picture, but here's some of those remaining fish, just huddled together near the surface of the water.

Hopefully we will get some rain and cooler temperatures soon, for the sake of our crops and the fish! Anyways, sushi's on the house tonight!!

An Eventful Day...

We had quite an interesting day today. Some of it was planned, some of it wasn't planned.
We finally got the peanut combine that we have been waiting for since January! There have been so many days that it was supposed to be delivered and it wasn't, that we were extremely happy to see it. We were worried that we would be picking peanuts by hand!

Here's the front of it. It's pto driven and is pulled by a tractor. It's an Amadas combine, John Deere doesn't make a peanut combine like this. I'm considering painting it green.

We also got our peanut dump cart delivered. The combine empties the peanuts into the dump cart, the cart drives to where the peanut trailer is parked, and dumps the load into the trailer.

Here's a picture of the peanut inverter. We've had it for a while, but I don't think I've shared a picture. This is what digs the peanuts out of the ground. It plows under the peanuts, cuts the taproot, and the peanut plants are carried up a set of roller chains. When the peanuts reach the back of the plow, a set of v-shaped rollers combine two rows into one, and the inverter spring rods "invert" or flip the peanuts upside down. The peanuts are on top so they can dry out until they get combined 2-3 days later.

Here's what some of our peanuts look like now. This variety is called "Georgia Green". We should be inverting them in the next few days!

We have also finally started defoliating our cotton! The defoliant makes the cotton shed it's leaves, and a boll opener does just what it sounds like, makes the cotton bolls open.

If it weren't for the heavy rains this Spring and having to plant the cotton so late, this would have been done one month ago.

This is the cotton field right behind our chicken houses. It has just been defoliated.

-----------------------------------------------------
Well, that was the good news of the day. The bad news occurred when I got home from the chicken houses this morning. I was cleaning the shower when Lance called and told me that our new house had been broken into. Whoever it was entered through a window that had been left open due to an extension cord running through it. They stole some of our builder's drills, drill bits, batteries, and a battery charger. They didn't get his big expensive tools because it looks like they had to carry it all out the window by hand. They stole $130 worth of our light fixtures, which hadn't been installed yet, and a medicine cabinet. They loaded it all up in our builder's wheelbarrow and wheeled it away! It wasn't enough to meet our insurance deductible, so looks like we'll be buying those lights all over again!
It's times like these when you're glad that you're best buddy is by your side!

Anyways, in better news...Here's some updated pictures of the house!
The painted tray ceiling/crown molding in the living room.

The "in-progress" tiling of the jacuzzi. The tile is called "Canyon Slate". All our bathroom floors have also been tiled with a color called "Raw Linen."

Bathroom cabinets and countertops have been installed. The countertop is called "Colorado Slate". None of this is as dark as it looks!

Our bookcases were just finished and set around the fireplace.

And here's the steps in our garage!
Hopefully we will wake up tomorrow with everything that belongs to us!
