Organizing the Pantry

abfolbutton
Well, its week #3 of Home Organization 101! All of this organizing has gotten me into a routine of keeping everything neat and put in its place, and I love it! I don't have to do "flight of the bumblebee" when unexpected company comes over! This week was pantry week!

Our pantry is in an awkward location behind the door going into the laundry room.
There's not enough room to fit any kind of bin on the top shelf, so I keep my "extras" up there. Extra ketchup, extra cereal, etc. I also keep my cookie cutters in the two containers on the right because they aren't used very often.

My second shelf has my breakfast items. It also has an excessive amount of ice cream cones leftover from Reed's birthday party that has nowhere else to go. When we finally get those eaten, I will have more space on this shelf.

The third shelf has my bread on the left, and a snack bin with things like peanut butter, raisins, cookies, and sunflower seeds, and the bin on the right holds chips.

Fourth shelf has a cracker bin and a "quick foods" bin. I couldn't think of anything else to name it. It has my rice, mac n cheese, instant potatoes, hamburger helper, etc.

The lowest shelf has a bin with my decorating supplies. I wrapped a gatorade can in scrapbook paper and keep my cupcake liners in it inside the bin. It also has my canned foods. I am trying to find some kind of can organizer, but no luck yet!

A couple of years ago, we bought a shelving unit to put in the bottom of the pantry. This is where I store most of my home canned foods. The rest of the foods I have canned are stored in the cabinet under the kitchen island. When these shelves get empty, I replace them with those.

Thank you Pinterest for this wonderful idea. I keep things like popcorn, taco seasoning, packs of grits and oatmeal, poptarts, etc., in a shoe organizer on the back of the pantry door.

I'm also including my upright freezer in this post because it is right beside the pantry.

Top shelf has homemade freezer jam, and frozen fruit in the bin. Second shelf has a bin containing frozen okra, frozen green beans (I can most of those), and extra ice cream.

Third shelf has frozen peas and last years corn. The drawer below that shelf has frozen squash. The fourth shelf has this years corn. In the drawer below that are bags of corn meal we had ground for us.

Also being included in this week's pantry organization are Reed's three plastic drawers beside the freezer. The top drawer contains extra snack and sippy cups. Middle drawer has regular food, and bottom drawer holds snacks.

Well, thats the end of the tour! Hope you enjoyed it!

  1. You make me ashamed! I like some of your ideas. The shoe storage thing is great but I have nowhere to put that. At least with all the kids gone and only two of us, we have less to store and more room to store it.
    You're doing a great job!
