All Dried Up!

Thankfully, we haven't had a drop of rain since Sunday. Add some sunny weather, and it's finally dry enough to get in the fields! First on the agenda-planting the peanuts that should've been planted by the 15th!
Peanuts need to be planted on rows that have been bedded (see this post to see what bedded rows look like). Then the tops of the rows need to be knocked down using a cultivator to give the peanuts a good place to be planted.

This is Jimmy loading seed into the hoppers. These hoppers need to be filled up every 2 acres, so it's a pretty slow go!

This is the pile of peanut seeds in the hopper. It's just treated peanuts!

This is Lance adding Talc to the seed. The talc helps the peanuts slide out of the hoppers and into the ground easier.

And finally we get to plant!

---------------------------------------------

If it's dry enough to plant, its dry enough to build a house!

Our footings were dug on Monday...
Then the rebar was added on Tuesday...

And today concrete was poured into the footings!

How did I celebrate these wonderful accomplishments?? I did what any farm wife would do...

I baked!

Monkey Bread!

Stop what you're doing. Go to the store. Buy the ingredients. Make this now.
Oh. My. Goodness. This stuff is so good it will make you slap your mama. It will make her slap you back. It will put you in a sugar coma. You will turn cartwheels.
I have written an official decree declaring this to be the official dessert of Miller Farms.
I'm not lying. Make this now. Or you'll be sorry. And maybe 10 lbs lighter.

Detailed directions and delicious pictures can be found at Pioneer Woman
Do it.
