This past weekend, Miller Farms hosted a "Farm Extrication Seminar" for local firefighters and EMTs. This is a semi-annual event put on by the Blount County Young Farmers.
Events like these are very important because many first responders are not trained or familiar with farm machinery
During the event, some of the local farmers, extension agents, and guys from chemical companies met for a "crop tour" of our cotton, peanuts, corn and soybeans. Word is, our cotton looks great, and we need to spray our peanuts for white mold!
We had around 150 attendees. They broke into groups, where some watched a video presentation led by former Alabama Farmers Federation Young Farmer Director, Brandon Moore, who recently went home to the farm. We want to thank Brandon for coming back to teach!
This is John Reed with the BREMMS Board (Birmingham Regional EMS System). He led one of our groups, and with his approval, attendees were able to get CEUs (Continuing Education Units).
Lance was around to run the equipment, while the teachers explained how everything operated, and how to turn off the machinery.
They also explained how the equipment the firefighters use to rescue people from cars and trucks might not be sufficient in rescuing someone from a farm accident.
We also had a few reporters covering this event! We had a local newspaper, Alabama Farmers Cooperative Magazine, and even Progressive Farmer attending!

We even had a visit from the Lifesaver Helicopter! Even had a few phone calls to make sure we weren't dead, lol.
