Progress Report!

Last Saturday, we finished planting all 110 acres of peanuts. Today I walked out in the field and checked on the babies. Whether it's animal, vegetable, or mineral, as a farmer's wife, I have many babies. They are just beginning to emerge!

Due to all the rain we've had, we're really behind on our planting schedule! Instead of finishing up planting cotton, we're just now starting! So far, a little over 100 acres have been planted. We only have until the end of the month to plant, so the acres that can't be planted in cotton, will have to be planted in soybeans in June.

Before the cotton can be planted, chicken litter must be spread! It has finally dried up enough to get the spreader trucks in the fields! Well, most of the fields. This truck got stuck in a field today!

The once Mt. Everest sized pile of litter is finally gone!

Unfortunately, we still have 2 dry stack buildings full of poo!

Here's whats happening with the house!
Most of the foundation block has been laid, and the builder hopes to start on the framework next week!

  3. Stephanie,
I find your blog very interesting. I've always wanted to live on a farm, but after reading your blog, maybe I just want to visit a farm. It sounds like lots of hard work. By the way, I just live up/down the road in Oneonta, AL.

  5. Welcome to my blog Robyn! Coming from Oneonta, our farm is right off of Hwy 75 North of Snead. If you ever go to Snead, our cotton fields are the ones you can see in Snead on Hwy 278.

  7. You must be terribly excited about the house. Anxiouis to see it when completed, & how you will decorate it.

I'd NEVER make it on a farm, but have ultimate respect for anyone who does ... I appreciate what they do for their fellow countrymen.

  8. I am completely humbled by that pile of chicken manure. I am so thankful that I only have 60 chickens on the way . . . 132,000 just plain scares me.
