Cemeteries, Lightning, Frogs, and Mr. T

Today was the 3rd Sunday in May, which around here means, Decoration Day! Most of Lance's family is buried about a mile away from where we live at Union Grove Church.

This is Lance's Grandparent's grave. Their names were Ted and Zada. Ted died in 1971, so Lance never knew him.

Most everybody brings flowers to decorate the graves with. This is some of Lance's family standing around the cemetery. See all the jackets? It was chilly and drizzly all day today! What happened to the 80s??

After the cemetery visit, everybody comes back to Lance's Parent's house for a family reunion. We're thinking about having it at our new house next year!

This was my lunch contribution. My blueberry cobbler (this time I made it with Splenda!), and my Grandmother's chicken casserole recipe.

We had to eat in the garage because (big shocker here) it was raining!
--------------------------------------------

Friday night there was a storm in the next county, and we were able to see a crazy lightning storm! I know we should've been hunkered down inside, but I couldn't resist taking pictures of it! I'm sure I get that from my Mom (I know you're reading this!). I love the color of the first picture, and you can see where I actually caught a small bolt of lightning on the left side of the second picture!

There were some others out enjoying the lightning storm that night. Check out who we spotted on the pool cover! Sorry about the crappy quality, but we were having to use a flashlight to see them! Boy were they barking and croaking! You could hardly hear the thunder over them! I caught this tree frog in mid-bark!

And look, here's Mr. Toad!

Not to be outdone by the tree frog, Mr. Toad starts croaking!

I had a quite interesting video of them croaking together, but it's too long for my dial up to load. It gets even more interesting when, um, lets just say Mr. Toad gets lonely. Yeah, that happened. Right in mid-video. I'm not sure who was shrieking louder, the unsuspecting frog, or the unsuspecting photographer.
--------------------------------------------

Remember that truck load of fresh cornmeal I had?? I found a recipe for Mexican cornbread and made some. Man was it good! If anybody wants the recipe for the cornbread, cobbler, or casserole, just lemme know!
------------------------------------------

I saw something quite disturbing today. You know the economy is getting bad when you see Mr. T hocking appliances on tv. MC Hammer in Burger King commercials...yeah, but Mr. T on infomercials??"I pity the fool who doesn't have tender chicken!"

----------------------------------------------

One more thing before I go! If you like beaches, picnics, and cute bags full of neat stuff, check out Alabama Slacker Mama. She's having a contest!

The flowers on the graves are absolutely beautiful! Are those green roses?

The food, as usual, looks fantastic! It's amazing that you both don't weigh 300 pounds!

  3. Yep, thats green roses. We're not even sure who put them there!

    Chicken Casserole
2 or 3 chicken breasts, boiled on stove (sometimes I cheat and used canned chicken)
2 cans cream of chicken, or use 1 cream of chicken and 1 cream of mushroom
    1 small sour cream (8oz)
    1 pack of Ritz crackers
    1/2 stick butter

Mix soup and sour cream. Add chicken and stir. Crush crackers and sprinkle on top of chicken mixture. Slice butter and put on top. Cook 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
