Couponology!

Due to my being a poor, basement-dwelling farm wife, who also happens to be building a house, I tend to know a lot about coupons. Since the economy is in the tank, I thought I would share my vast coupon knowledge with everyone.

Step 1: Gather your supplies

In my case, I have a pen, grocery list, handy-dandy coupon organizer, scissors, and coupons.

Step 2: Get rid of old coupons

Looks like last month I missed out on some candy, a Thickburger, and a sirloin! Dadgummit.

Step 3: Grocery List

I organize the list into the grocery side and the non-grocery side. Notice that toothpaste is the only thing on the non-grocery side? I try to avoid that side of the store. I tend to gravitate toward the clearance aisles.

See?

What? I couldn't just buy one of them. They would've gotten lonely!

Also, always remember to scour the house for items you need.

Because even though you ask your husband if he needs anything, and he says no, you know good and well he needs toothpaste cause he's been using a sample pack for the past week.

Step 3: Mooch

If you really want to save money, bum the newspaper from your father in law. Unfortunately all the good coupons may disappear.

Step 4: Ignore the Ads

No matter how cool the ad may seem, don't fall victim!

Because having a bag full of M&Ms too expensive to eat is like having a tractor you can't get dirty. *Sigh*

Step 5: Warning

Just because you have a coupon, it doesn't mean you have to use it.

Even though the dog gives you this look

He seriously may have enough Milk Bones.

Step 6: Cut Coupons

I usually take all the coupons that I have clipped (hey, how'd that Milk Bone coupon get there?), and add a "C" next to the item on the grocery list, so that I won't forget I have them.

Step 7: Grab Your Grabbers
These little doo-dads come in handy when you have your hands full of the groceries you were able to buy with all your coupons.

Congratulations! You are now a coupon nerd savvy shopper!

What's the one thing that farm wives love more than coupons, free hats from seed companies, and breakfast at the hardware store?

Leftovers!

The carrots from Saturday's meal turned into Brown Sugar Glazed Carrots (just boil, drain the water, and add brown sugar and butter!), and the squash got fried! That homemade sourdough bread is just right for soppin' up that brown sugar and butter! Now that's livin' the life of Raleigh!

Here's some Baked Apples for dessert!
Just add apples, cinnamon, butter, and microwave for 12 minutes!

If leftovers isn't your thing, I'm sure our neighbor's dog Food World (yes, Food World) will let you sample some of his meal!
Mmmm...fresh squirrel. Enjoy!

  1. You are just like me! The only thing, I haven't bought the M&M's yet. Have cut the coupon, but no action yet...LOL

  2. I've been a coupon-a-holic for years. My problem is that most of the coupons I see are for things I don't use! LOL

Fried squash --- have to fix some tonight. Oh, yeah.

  3. I just found out that there are coupon online that you can print out. Mine was for Joanne Fabrics but I bet the grocery companies also have online coupons somewhere.

Hey - what's a Grabber? I have those cloth-type reusable grocery bags but most times I forget and leave them in the car!!

    That dinner looks great. Yummy.

  4. I just spent forever cutting out stacks of coupons that mama sent me.....unfortunatly, I didn't get to the stack early enough to save some really good coupons! :o(

Now my problem is....remembering to actually USE them! For some reason they just don't work when you leave them in your purse, pocket, desk, seat of the car......

BTW...I so love my grabber thingies!
